Hachi, waiting in his usual place for Parker as the train pulls up, doesn't see his master disembark, and instead patiently waits and waits for hours even as it starts snowing. One winter's day, Parker suffers a fatal and unexpected brain hemorrhage while at work and thus never returns home on the train as usual. Hachi learns what time that Parker will be due home every day and constantly goes to the station to wait for him at 5:00pm, quickly becoming their new daily routine. When Parker returns to the train station after work he is surprised to find Hachi waiting for him. The next day Hachi follows Parker again who this time gets on the train. One morning Parker leaves for work and Hachi follows him to the train station and refuses to leave without his master causing Parker to abandon the train to take the dog home. Parker tries to train Hachi, a Japanese breed of dog called an Akita, but the dog refuses to do normal dog things like chasing and fetching. Over the next year or so Parker and Hachi become even closer. Although Parker's wife, Cate, is opposed to keeping the puppy she eventually relents after realising the bond between Parker and Hachi. However the puppy's owner cannot be found and Parker and the puppy begin to form a close bond. The professor ends up taking the puppy home, planning to search out its intended destination and send it on to its rightful owner. Despite his classmates laughing, Ronnie describes how his grandfather, Professor Parker Wilson, finds a lost puppy which had been freighted to the United States from Japan but was accidentally left at the train station of the professor's small hometown. When Ronnie has to give a presentation at school about a personal hero, he chooses to tell the story of his grandfather's dog Hachiko ("Hachi" for short). The story is told by Ronnie who is the man's grandson. "A Dog's Tale" is based on a true story of the love and devotion between a man and a dog. The film's foreign box office returns total $46.7 million as of January 2011. The film was given a UK theatrical release on March 12, 2010, courtesy of Entertainment Film Distributors, and opened in over 25 countries throughout 20. Hachi: A Dog's Tale premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival on June 13, 2009, and its first theatrical release was in Japan on August 8. Sony Pictures Entertainmentdecided to forgo a U.S. The film is a remake of the 1987 Japanese film Hachikō Monogatari. Lindsey and Kaneto Shindo, and stars Richard Gere, Joan Allen and Sarah Roemer. Based on the true story of a faithful Akita Inu, the titular Hachikō, it is directed by Lasse Hallström, written by Stephen P. No matter, Hachi still gets an A?.Hachi: A Dog's Tale is a 2009 English-language drama film. A run-of-the-mill making-of doc is the sole EXTRA. And unless you’re made of stone, you will too. Then, one day, his master doesn’t come home (I’m not giving anything away, it’s in the trailer) and Hachi just waits…and waits. Based on a true story, Hachi is the tale of a professor who adopts a lost Akita puppy who sits outside the train station every night, loyally waiting for him to come home. After all, films directed by Lasse Hallström ( Chocolat) and starring Richard Gere generally don’t bypass theaters and basically go straight to DVD if they’re half decent. At first glance, there was little reason to expect Hachi: A Dog’s Tale‘s inclusion on that list. ![]() What all of these movies about man’s best friend have in common is that they’re guaranteed to turn on the most stubborn waterworks. Since then, there have been heart-tuggers aimed at art-house crowds (1952’s Umberto D.), action-flick aficionados (2007’s I Am Legend), and mainstream multiplexers (2008’s Marley & Me). ![]() Hollywood’s been hip to this for ages, going back as far as 1943’s Lassie Come Home - a perennial that defies you not to reach for the Kleenex. ![]() We fellas may appear to be emotionally bulletproof sitting through female-friendly weepies like Steel Magnolias and Beaches, but throw a dog into the mix and the floodgates tend to bust wide open. Bill Murray knew that much in Stripes when he asked his platoon to raise their hands if they cried when Old Yeller died. Even the manliest moviegoer likes to have a good cry from time to time. ![]()
